OK. I'm trying to determine how Half full is different from Half empty here.

What's the nuance in these descriptions of build VS descend. Both read to me like you start slow and end up fast?

4×50 pull @ :60 (build each 50)
4×150 pull @ 3:30 (descend time 1-4)

Build:
This term refers to a steady increase in effort during the given distance. For example, 4x50 build...start each 50 very easy, build your effort to medium near the middle, increase to fast as you approach the end of the 50.

There was no definition for Descend Time but i'm assuming it means that you Get faster with each 150? OR does it mean that over the course of each 150 you get faster. Like a slow acceleration over the 150?

Thanks

First guess is correct. Each 150 should be a bit faster than the preceding one. Key is not to start too fast! Build means building up speed WITHIN each repeat.

What she said

A build is a build within the distance

A Descend is each successive distance faster than the previous

Building on that, the third option would be a negative split, which means you swim the second half of that distance faster than the first

FYI a down pointing arrow is short hand for descend. Sometimes you will see repeating descends in a set... 1-4, 5-8, 9-16, etc

How familiar are you with the details of your stroke? Do you have ways, in the middle of a training set, perhaps while trying to keep up in a lane-circle, to keep your awareness acute?

Working only on technique will not make a swimmer much faster; some work must be done at speeds and efforts that could cause technique to deteriorate.
