Subject: Ready for the next level
Hello! This will be my third season of sprint triathlons. In the previous two years, I didn't put much effort into my training and made lots of excuses to skip workouts. I don't want to look back years from now and wonder how much better I could have done. So, this year I want to take the training seriously. I want to get a training plan and stick to it. Does anyone have any thoughts on the training plans offered on this site? Is it better to pay for a plan or just use one of the free ones? I am not looking at getting a coach or anything either. Also, last summer I strained or pulled my calf muscle during a duathlon. It just recently reared its ugly head late November. I think the injury was minor but obviously it is not going away. My first triathlon this year is mid May and I want to start a 16 week plan on January 16th. Hopefully my calf is better, I am not running on it until the 16th of January. I still swim, pull only, and use the bike trainer.

Welcome! Consistency will be a big factor in acieving good results...so get to a sports medicine doc and get it looked at if you haven't already. I've tried to manage acilles/calf problems myself with little success. The only thing that worked for me was full rest and a 'little bit' of hill training.

Good luck this season!

Will you will finish your next triathlon swim strong, or will you run out of steam before you even start the majority of your race?

I'm not sure if one of these models is better, both are from 2009 aluminum/carbon combinations. I realize this is a difficult question but any thoughts as which bike is better for a woman?

No one likes to look like a fool, but it’s hard not to when you don’t know what you’re doing as a beginner, so if it helps, go ahead and pretend.
