Did you try his drill?
I did, but my upper body muscles are not strong enough to do it. What exercises would you suggest to develop muscles needed during a swimming pull?

The drills someone posted on my 'land swimming' thread are easy enough on the totalgym

My swim coach had me do that the first or second time I saw him. After constantly feeling like my pants were going to come off, I said "f' that" and haven't done it since. And that pretty much catches us up to today.

I haven't. I'm not going to discount the drill since I'm sure who thought of it is a much better swimmer than I. Search Youtube for Sheila Taormina's Swim Speed Secrets. She has a drill with tubing that's worked well for many. It's not so much a strength drill but helps with techniquie. As Suzanne states...Swim....and I'll add swim some more.

Usually the problem is not about being strong enough but about balancing the strength you do have so that all the parts work together.

Once you know what it feels like to have all the parts working in a coordinated way you can use the water itself to build the strength you need.

Other ways to develop strenght. Swim a few laps with only one arm. Swim with the pull.

Both are the swimming movements.

I did the exercice in the video. They call them water pushup here. One of m'y goals coing sport sports is gettting healthy. I see this exercise more as a toning exercise then a swimming exercise.

I've been doing wide grip chin-ups and lat pulldowns regularly since the 60's (yes, I'm old).  In fact, those are exercises I do at the gym on days the weather keeps me out of the pool.

But I'd have to agree that the best way to develop strength specific to swimming is by swimming.

The one-arm drill. This drill will help you with body rotation, breathing, and pull. It also isolates one arm so you can really concentrate on what that arm is doing through the whole stroke cycle.
