Sunny
Total Time = 24m 44s
Overall Rank = 47/701
Age Group = F45-49
Age Group Rank = 4/60
Pre-race routine:

Champagne while watching the ball drop in Times Square (on TV), sleeping in, regular cereal breakfast, hanging around. Did I mention that it was a 10 o'clock race start less than 10 minutes from the house? We left the house at 9am and were way early.
Event warmup:

There was a staging area for the event in the gyms. I did some stretches in there and then ran around the parking lot and did some dynamic warm ups. Then we lined up for the race start and we were off.
Run

Comments:

Nice run. The timing was such that it was a gun start (everyone got the same start time) and chipped finish. The first mile was on roads and the last two were on greenway. The first half of the last mile -- from 2.0 to 2.5 -- had a lot of black ice on the shady side of Symphony Lake. Also, this is where we encountered walkers. One of the walkers fell on the black ice as we approached. I hope that she's OK.

The story with the walkers is that the 5k I was running had permits, police (to help us cross streets), etc. and 700+ registrants. So the Town of Cary decided to hold First Walk 2015 on the same greenway at the same time as the 5k. Right hand, this is left hand. Please get to know each other.
Post race
Warm down:

I ran a half a mile up Regency Parkway and then back to the finish area where I met up with Kevin who was run/walking the event

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Black ice.

Event comments:

Fun, low key event. I would definitely do this one again.

Nicely Done. I am a big fan of the low key event, especially within 10 minutes of the house.

What a great way to start off the New Year!!  Love doing races close by, especially ones that don't start at 0'Dark 30.  Black ice can be scary--I'm really glad you didn't fall!

Champagne! Sounds like a perfect pre-race hydration strategy. Great job Janyne!
