sounds fun. i'm in the midst of marathon training, otherwise, i'd be all over this. as it is, i do 2-3 cycling sessions a week, with 1 or 2 of them being sufferfest. absolutely great workouts.

I'm tempted to do Rubber Glove Wednesday to make sure I have a solid baseline set, but I'm afraid it's going to be higher.

I'm at the end of TR's sweet spot base 2 training plan...I wouldn't test until Tuesday of next week. I guess the test will have to wait for the end of the ToS! Darn.

I'm in and thoroughly blowing up my training plan in the process.  Who needs a base anyway?

I'm currently running at a virtual power FTP on TR for my Kurt Kinetic of 295.  It's been there for two years and that last test was at the end of a build so it's probably a little lower now.  I'm thinking of dropping it 5% for the Tour and see what happens.  In my two SF "test" sessions, I struggled but managed on The Rookie and got clobbered by Hell Hath No Fury.

I'm going to start tomorrow morning - gotta use every second available to survive!

So The Long Scream is an extra shot video.  What superhero says "you know...that Sufferfest hero wasn't hard enough.  Let's tack on 30 minutes at threshold!"?!

A lot of these videos I've never done before...The Long Scream was a pretty good slog. Glad it's done. 1st stage is under my belt. Nothing looks too bad until next Saturday.

Just finished up stage 2 this morning...the first half was fairly benign but the Pain Shakes hurt pretty good and then those 3 x 4' @ threshold were really tough. Thank goodness the daily TSS lets up some.

Stage 1 is in the books, and let me tell you the long scream was much harder than expected! Elements of style eased me in and gave me a false sense of hope....then came long scream and the beat down ensued! Can't wait for tomorrow!

Going to be a fun week! Did Stage 1 last night then Blender this morning. Not particularly smart timing but it got done. And yes, the last 3 x4 @ threshold were brutal. Worse was I had to go shovel the driveway when I got done.

Long Scream was, well, long, but not that bad. Actually think 20' test in Rubber Glove is much worse. Watch out for Nine Hammers - nails for breakfast.

I also finished stage 1 last night and did stage 2 today. I couldn't agree more with everyone on the 3 x 4:00 time trails. I was already in a world of hurt after the pain shakes. The 3x4's took the suffering to a whole other level. I haven't done Blender in a while and forgot how tough that workout it is. I was reminded pretty quickly though. I probably shouldn't have tried to out time trial Tony Martin in The Long Scream last night. Looking forward to Stage-3 tomorrow.

Blender has always been my favorite Sufferfest video -- so glad we got to do it early in the tour before my legs are completely trashed!

I crashed and burned on Long Scream. I went all out on Elements of Style and had nothing left for 30' of time trialing. I shouldn't have gone for a long run the day before either. Rookie mistake.

I'll still do the others as best I can even though I've been dropped.

Fight Club done...wheels came off a bit on the last 7'.

Didn't love the video (first time I've done that one).  The "attacking" piece was the same clip over and over again.  Looks like the minions mailed it in on this one.  :-)

For a long time it was my favorite video, because it's a great workout.  Then Blender took it for a while, but now The Rookie owns the title.

I can already feel a loss at my top end.  Sprints are getting harder and hard to do, which doesn't bode well for Saturday....

Ditto for me...the threshold level stuff is fine, but that 120%+ stuff is killing me.

Nine Hammers in the books, pretty much nailed it except the last minute.  I like that video...it kind of lulls you into thinking "I got this" and then the last two hammers kick the crap out of you.

Same feeling about 9 Hammers, fair but way tough. Made each of the hammers at FTP goal, but I was hanging on for deal life at that 4' threshold hammer. The quality of the new videos is very good as are the donuts. The Rookie though may be fav vid.

Fight Club broke me, which was a new experience. I would ask my legs to sprint and they would just laugh at me! The last two hill climbs were just too much. At one point I wanted to know how many attacks were coming up but I couldn't see the screen clearly, and it's a 54" tv not more than 4' away! In the end I just put my head down and went as hard as I could, ignoring the target FTP, and it's evident by looking at my ride data that I was toast.

I love Nine Hammers! It's an amazing example of just how far their production values have come. Unfortunately I wasn't able to watch the last 10-15 minutes as I was once again head down, eyes closed, and just trying to hang on. My legs are simply dead... until I start pedaling of course. Then they immediately wake up and start screaming at me "Why! Why! Why would you do this to us!?!?" I ended up dropping my FTP to 95% after I struggled with the warm-up, well below threshold.

Was woken up by the alarm this morning at 5:30 and sat there in bed rationalizing about dialing back my FTP today for Angels.  I finally decided to give it a go @100% and managed to survive it (after an extra 6-7 min WU...hitting 95% only 6 min in is way to quick for me, especially at 6 AM).  The over-under and first climb were a comfortable tough, the 2nd climb really started to hurt, and I had to dial back juuuuust a little for about 1 min in the middle of the 3rd climb.  Top end at low cadences is completely gone.

More than halfway done, stage-wise anyway.

I hate Local Hero.  I'm dreading the hell out of that stage tomorrow.  Despite being on stage 5 of 9 we still have almost 7 hours of riding left.  Gonna be a long next few days.

I did Local Hero this morning. Until today the rides have been tough but manageable, with predictable HR creep. Not today. HR was high from the beginning. I missed some targets but hung on and finished. Not pretty.

I did Local Hero this morning at 5am. My legs are shot. I am trying not to reduce power but I think there is no way around it for stage 8

Don’t forget this is an incredibly big year for sport with the Olympics back in Athens where the modern Olympics started, and especially triathlon to make its second appearance.
