Subject: RE: Hammer nutrition cycling short vs tri Sometimes less is more when it comes to padding in shorts. I share the same opinion as others (including John Cobb) that bike shorts used on a tri bike in the aero position is probably not the best. Thicker padded shorts tend to bunch up and bulk up in places and can actually cause more discomfort and pressure than a thinner padded short (like your typical tri shorts or something like the Desoto Riviera). It sounds counter-intuitive but it's the reality for many... but not all people. I'm far more comfortable using a thin fleece padded short or trisuit than I am using regular bike shorts. I don't even wear bike shorts when riding my road bike anymore. I could go on a four ride wearing something like the Desoto Forza and have zero issues. I go on a four ride wearing the same sized Desoto 400-milers and *TMI Alert* my junk is completely numb in 45 minutes. |
