hi folks,

After some good advice on her and some reading, I think I will be trading in my old 405 for a 910.
Only concern from the DC Rainmaker review is that Ray says it's poor as a watch... 'Doesn’t really work as a normal day to day non-sports watch (battery only 20hrs)'

Anyone use theirs every day?
I do with my 405 and it would last a week if I wasn't to start a run/ride.
If so, what duration do you get out of it?

I bought a used 910xt about a month ago. I'm still learning to use it, like it a lot for training. But, I'd agree that it makes a rather poor "regular" watch. Big, heavy, and I want mine to be charged and ready to train with, not worried if I'm going to run out of battery. I tried using it as a reg watch, turned off the gps and the next time I ran with it couldn't figure out why it wasn't tracking distance. I'd rather just have a $20 everyday watch and keep the 910 for training.

yeah- unlike your 405, it doesn't have a regular 'off' mode that displays the time and date.  You have to essentially create that mode, by turning off the GPS and setting up the display fields to show time.  Granted, not hard to do, but a little annoying.

Other than being too big... it's not a wristwatch.

I'm a fan of the Suunto Ambits.  Much nicer looking, will act as an everyday watch, and has full multisport capability.  i.e. it will count your swim laps very well, do OWS, etc. The Ambit2S is cheap these days.  Close to $200.

Garmin seems to do a poor job with their designs but the Fenix3 actually look promising.

Why would you want to wear the 910XT as a daily watch? It's very good what it's designed to do, but being a watch is definitely not one of them...

I would get a cheap watch as your daily and keep the 910XT for training/racing

It makes an excellent multisport device, but an extremely poor watch. A friend has a fenix 2 that he uses as an everyday watch though and it' a step up from the 910xt.

I have a blue Suunto Ambit 3 in Blue. its very fashionable and yet function, thought I do miss my old 310XT with the 4 screen the Ambit is in my opinion a better overall multi-use watch.
