Are there tri tops for women that cover shoulders? I'm always worried about mine getting burned and would love a cap sleeve. I have one, but it's pretty ragged and I can't find anything similar to replace it with.

I would love some ideas.

Sleeves are illegal on non wetsuit swims. Lots of new aero sleeved tops and suits coming out from all the big names.

Desoto makes these... cooler wings

I've not looked for the woman's version but there is an Orca 226 tri top for men that has short sleeves. "Short" in this case is just below the curve of the shoulder and if I'm guessing right that would be about a cap sleeve.

Not true.  They're illegal for non-wetsuit Ironman/WTC races but perfectly legal for non-wetsuit USAT races.

Outside of USAT, ITU doesn't allow sleeves in non wetsuit swims.

"When the use of wetsuits is forbidden, clothing covering any part of the arms below the shoulders and clothing covering any part of the legs below the knees is also forbidden."

Ooh that Orca 226 is what I was looking for- Too bad there's no XXS!

Does anyone know if sleeves are illegal in Xterras? Or if this really matters since our Colorado Mountain Lakes are not really at risk of being a not wetsuit legal?

ooh- That is exactly what I'm looking for! Other than the white. Last race I crashed and got a bloody nose. I can only imagine what that top would have looked like coated in red dirt and blood!

I wonder if dye would hold in it? Tie die?

I'm aware of that as they also adopted the FINA rules just like WTC.  It wasn't worth mentioning ITU because what percentage of AG'ers would that even affect?

I just looked up the 2014 Xterra rules and it says this:

Note: XTERRA follows the Swim Rules for Wetsuit Use established by the
ITU at all XRC events. See Section D.2 in the ITU Competition Rules for
specific details.
Note: The XTERRA/ITU rules may be waived by the XPS race directors in
favor of USA Triathlon Swimming Conduct rules. See Section 4 of the USA
Triathlon Rules for specific details.

So would that mean sleeves are not okay if wetsuits are not okay?

thanks!

Sounds like it depends on the race director.  If they use ITU rules... no sleeves.  USAT rules... sleeves.
