Pre-race routine:

Up early, got to the race site while it was still pitch black--got the race number, hit the potty and waited in the car until 10 min before race time. Ate Sport Legs 1 hr prior and a gel about 10 min before the start.
Event warmup:

Nada, gonna be a long day!

Comments:

I loved it. This is the longest running race I have ever done--both in miles and in time spent running. The mud made it really tough, but having to navigate through it and flail around and be careful made the time and miles fly by.
What would you do differently?:

Longer run toward the end of training, but I pretty much nailed every workout on my training plan and felt good physically. I'd love to be able to run up the hills someday, but this time I just hiked/fast walked and hit my 15 min/mile goal.
Post race
Warm down:

Had some hot soup, hot coffee, changed clothes, and had a beer. Still freezing, so went a few miles up the road to the YMCA and took a long hot tub, which helped significantly!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My own personal mega fat ass!!! Although I felt I did good enough for my first time. I can't wait to do more. I really can't wait! Maybe on a dry course, it was sooooo rainy today--major deluge the entire time. I wore a compression tank, t shirt, arm warmers, raincoat, capris, gloves and visor, and that was fine.

Event comments:

LOVED LOVED LOVED IT!

Course: Hilly. Muddy. The muddiest run I have ever done. On the way out we were jumping large puddles. By the time we headed back at the end, we were running in a creek and those puddles were ponds. No jumping, just running through them. Had a couple of oh-so-glamorous falls but only my ego was bruised, but barely, there was no way to avoid falling at times. The mud was like running in peanut butter, oily, sticky, slippery peanut butter, And did I mention hills! It is advertised as 3000 feet elevation, but my Garmin didn't say that much, although I think it is WRONG! Definitely that hilly. At 11.8 miles there is a water stop and they had tequila, which was sooooooo amazing at that point! We were cold, wet and muddy and it made the last few miles better!
