Hello everyone,

I'm stepping up to using a power meter this year as I train up to my first full Ironman race in November. Are any of you using a Stages PM and 910xt? If so, did you have any problems with the 910xt receiving power data consistently? I'm about to purchase a Stages power meter and read in some forums there are many problems with this power meter installed and the 910xt on the left wrist.

Thanks,
Roland

Keep reading. There are plenty of people that have trouble with the 910 mounted on the bars.
There have been enough issues that you should save a bit more for a 500 or a P2M (other other PM) and avoid all the frustration that often comes with the 910/stages combo.

Yeah, last I heard Stages is still claiming that the issue lies with Garmin and that the 910 xt uses 4 channel ANT+ connectivity.  IOW, even though every other ANT+ power meter has no trouble connecting with the 910xt, Stages is still blaming Garmin as the problem, and as far as I know are not making any changes to their product to increase their ANT+ signal strength.  Instead, their solution is for you to upgrade to a better Garmin.  If you're using a 910xt as your primary bike computer, I would completely avoid Stages until they make an effort to address this issue on their end...because I can guarantee you that Garmin isn't going to do anything to improve the 910 watch you already bought from them...which works with everything else ANT+ in the world.

From this link on Stages website directly addressing the 910 issue.

Data connectivity problems caused by pairing multiple sensors, manifesting as missing data/dropped data both on screen and evident in post ride download.

Cause: device uses older 4-channel ANT+ chip stack, weaker connectivity to paired sensors.

Effect: frequent drops and missing data with more than two external sensor parings; zero reset failure if HR strap is paired and not present.

Solution: recommended total number of ANT+ sensor parings: Two (2) for Garmin Forerunner 910XT; if more sensors required, upgrade Garmin device to newer model with 8-channel ANT+ chip: Edge 510, 810, 1000

Further recommendations: be aware of HR pairing and Zero Reset interaction (see Zero Reset comments).

Prone to RF interference and data drops.

Cause: device uses older 4-channel ANT+ chip stack, weaker connectivity to paired sensors. Sub-optimal chip orientation causes drops when fully extended in aero bars

Effect: data drops in signal heavy environs, be aware of cause and effect.

Solution: upgrade to Garmin device with 8-channel ANT+ chip: Garmin Edge 510, 810, 1000.

Further recommendations: keep Forerunner firmware up-to-date; check monthly

Thanks!

I wonder if this problem also exists with the new 920xt. I'm gonna research that too.

I have a 910xt.  This is why I decided against Stages and went Power 2 Max for couple hundred more.  No problems with the P2M Classic.

Update!

I decided to purchase the Stages Rival PM and it works nicely! I just completed my first power meter test ride during my lunch break today. I made a diy mount in front of my PD aero bottle and positioned my 910xt there. Very interesting to see power readings!!!

3 splits:

• 1 -- 130bpm -- 131w; flat
• 2 -- 144bpm -- 183w; 2.5 mile hill
• 3 -- 130bpm -- 124w; flat

Cadence readings felt on spot as well.

Super excited! Gonna get used to reading this information and conduct an FTP field test sometime next month. Woohoo!
