I have an 11 speed Shimano system on my road bike, with the training/everyday wheel obviously having an 11 speed hub. My Tri bike, with a Zipp 808 rear wheel has a 10 speed Shimano drive chain.

On the odd occasion I like to use my Zipp wheels on my road bike. Does anyone know whether this would be possible, ie. using a 10 speed cassette with a rear mech set up to a 11 speed system. I presume the 11 speed cassette will not fit on my 808 wheel.

Won't index. I'd recommend calling up Zipp and getting the 11-speed freehub body and doing full swap over to 11.

Yes, thought this might be the case. If I get the 11 speed hub will I be able to put the 10 speed casette on it (with some sort of spacer perhaps). The componants on my Tri bike are all Dura Ace so really can't justify spending that amount of money to switch over to 11 speed.

Go with a 105 cassette, or even a SRAM 1130 instead of the high-cost DA.

So I will change the hub and casette.  Will I need to change the bar end shifter or should that be OK?

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.

You can use a 10 speed cassette on an an 11 speed free hub but not the the other way around. As long as you have a 10 speed cassette, you can use that on your 10speed bike. And of course when you want to use this wheel for your 11 speed bike, you need to change the cassette over to your 11 speed cassette.

If you are asking what it would take to switch it all over to 11 speed; shifters, rear derailleur, chain, cassette. Although you can get away with using your 10 speed front derailleur, I would recommend changing that as well.

Well, not exactly.

An interesting hack will allow you to put a modified 11 speed cassette on your 10 speed wheel. See:

http://darkspeedworks.com/blog.htm

You need to be a good bike mechanic and well versed in deraillieur adjustment - the rear mech will need to be retuned, including both the upper and lower stops. But its possible, and it works. Do not recommend trying if you are not a semi-expert mechanic. The reverse - using a 10 speed on an 11 speed hub just requires a spacer placement and retuning.

Hope that helps.

Definitely not even close to a semi-expert mechanic  so I think I will look at the cost of getting the free-hub changed for an 11 speed version then using a spacer when it is on my Tri bike.

I'm curious about the 'don't increase your run by more than 10% per week' rule. Is there a minimum mileage under which this doesn't apply?

Yes, the Dual is a little heavier than Cervèlo’s high end counterparts. But…the price is within reach of the masses and it still incorporates all of the design features that make a Cervèlo special.
