Anyone use their watch while riding instead of computer?   I've thought about ditching the computer (can't get it in a good place to easily see while on extensions) and just using forerunner with quick release.  I don't necessarily think I'll like the quick release option for running.  It looks like it's going to be bulkier and I'd be worried in a race about it getting knocked off during the swim.

I guess another option would be a 500 or 510 so I could mount it farther out.

Instead of? I consider my old Forerunner 305 to be a computer and it's all I use

I started using my 305 as my bike computer after my Cateye stopped working. Magnet on rear wheel and cadence sensor - no problem. I don't use the quick release. For racing, I don't use it on the run anyway, so not an issue.

Just as a personal preference I like having computers dedicated to a sport.  I use an Edge 500 on the bike and a Forerunner 220 to run.  I had a 305 with a quick release for a while and I found it to be more of a pain than just having two.

Instead of stand alone bike computer.  The watch would always be on my wrist so I envision it being a hassle to easily see as opposed to mounted on stem or extensions. IDK, I was just at LBS about to buy a Garmin and started thinking why bother.  But I know as soon as it gets a little warmer it won't take long before I think dam it's hard to read this screen.  I've tried to relocate it but signal isn't strong enough to go farther then stem.  For anything under an hour I probably wouldn't care.  But the longer rides it would annoy me I think.

I've typically only used the watch for pacing while running and overall time / run pacing in races.

I use my 910 for everything, swim bike run.  I just turn it so that the display is on the inside of my wrist so I can easily see it while riding without having to turn my arm over.  I have even come to prefer this position for the run also as it always seems easier to see the inside of your wrist.

All I use is my 500. I get distance, speed etc from the GPS.

I've not had a bike computer for about 7 years now! I just use my Garmin watch. I find it works great but I also don't have a powermeter, so don't feel the need to stare at my power output constantly. I find in aero it is very easy and quick to rotate my wrist and glance down at my watch. I also set laps to beep every 5 miles so can almost ride blind and get summary data every 5 miles. Its super easy.

x3.

IMO, the quick release provides no value, and is a potential liability (easier to get knocked off during the swim).  Too many over complicate things.  KISS.

I recently got a Polar V800 which is a triathlon watch with GPS.  I have been using it while riding instead of my Garmin Edge 305.  I don't have a mount on the handlebars for the watch so I have just worn it on my wrist.  The stem-mounted bike computer is easier to check while riding and the display is bigger and shows more data on one screen (max of 7 on the Edge, 4 on the V800).  I mainly use the watch for logging data, not for monitoring whle running or riding.  It is convenient to have all my data on one device.  The V800 has a triathlon mode which switches easily from one event to another.  I've not used it.

I've got no problem using the 310xt with quick release though it is a little thicker on the wrist.

Worst case scenario I've seen even some pros just wear it on the wrist sometimes, usually on the inside, easier to see the screen in aero.

Another vote for just wearing the forerunner on the inside of your wrist. The garmin speed/cadence sensors pair automatically, so simple. When in aero it's right in front of you. Only difficult thing is my polarized sunglasses make me have to tilt my head a little bit to read the screen, but no biggie.

This, except I have the LYC on my bike instead of the Edge.

I haven't been seriously bike training, so I've been using the 220 just to record time/distance to add to the training log.

I find that two devices simplifies things. But that's just my $0.02

My FR15 was very excited about the 4:04 mile I ran today! I didn't know how to let it know I was mountain biking...

I always use a wrist watch mtn biking. I used to use a 910 but I gave it to my husband and got a smaller FR15 which I love the convenience of just wearing as a watch and always having on. It doesn't differentiate between sports or do cadence- but gives me basic stats.
