Subject: Foot pain
I have a job that keeps me on my feet most of the day. Adding to this my runs, I have foot pain almost constantly. In the morning some days I can barely stand at first and hobble for about 5 minutes. The pain is located on the top of my foot over where the arch is. Towards the end of the day, or end of a run my pain is at the base of my big toe (joint).

I have changed shoes, been stretching my feet. I am frustrated because I just began to finally show progress with running. Has anyone dealt with this issue, and have any more suggestions?

Mine definitely isn't the same (everyone is so different/unique!)

but, I experienced fairly persistent pain at the base of my toe joint (big toe on my left foot).
To the point where it started dictating which shoes I could & couldn't wear (which I didn't appreciate!!)

So, I googled first.....
then tracked down a local foot doctor & made an appointment.

Let him tell me what was going on.
THANKFULLY he suggested a small handful of manipulations I could perform on my own foot.

But gave me the heads up that orthodics could be in order
(= ugh!!!)

Yet the manipulations do help alleviate some of the pain (& he also suggested anti-inflammatories and ice-- which I reserve for especially painful days + post workout, respectively!!)

it's been ages since you originally posted this though.
So i'm really hoping that you've gotten it checked out and that you're on your way to recovery!!

I expected to hurt after the marathon, and I did but there was nothing that I was immediately alarmed about. Since then, the foot pain that popped up after the marathon has not really gone away.

My foot is now in a tremendous amount of pain, it is swollen, and I can barely walk on it at all, it hurts so much. I am still putting the gel on, taking anti inflammatories, and icing. Help!

I sometimes have severe pains on the top of my left foot. It feels like a knife is stabbing my inner foot on the outer portion of my foot. These pains happen mainly at night but not while riding.

Yesterday I ran 10 miles. At mile 7 it started feeling sore. At mile 9.5 I got a shooting pain and walked the last 1/2 mile. I have a half Ironman to do in a week and a half. What are my chances?

I started riding this spring with the Carnac shoes on Look pedals (with plenty of float). About five minutes into a ride I get sharp pain on the outer edge of my feet, just behind the pedal.
