Subject: Am I too heavy for my bike
I just ran across a great deal I couldn't pass up on a 2011 Fuji D6 3.0. So here it is sitting in my garage, this speed rocket and now I am worried that I am too heavy for the bike. I am currently 260 lbs. Do I have anything to worry about? I definately do not want to hurt myself or somebody else or damage the bike. Please tell me I am overthinking this I have never had a carbon fiber bike before today.

Maybe I should test ride it first for ya …… Also…. I highly recommend heading over to your local bike shop for a proper fitting…. It will save your knees, back, elbows, etc

Lets just say it was an impulse buy...eek. I got lured in to its sexy looks and the thought of going fast I plan on doing a full fit but want to make sure I am ok on the bike. The fit is $250 so I want to make sure I am not wasting money.

You can write Fuji and ask what the weight limit is. I have a '12 Fuji Altamira. They responded to me with specific weight limits. It shocked me, actually. And I Definitely save the email! 4 years later and I have never had a weight related issue with the bike.

Good luck!

And X2 on the advice to get fitted.

The wheels are the failure point of the bike. If you are concerned you could put a strong set of wheels on it. When I was over 300 pounds I had a set of velocity deep v wheels made up with 36 spokes. Things are not going to break.. Now I am 224 and even though I don't need that strong of a wheel it's nice knowing that they won't fail on me.

I have a kestrel talon, who are made my the same parent company as Fuji. Unfortunately during my weight gain I got above the maximum rider weight for my bike which is 275lbs. I'm getting there, but at the moment I'm staying off the bike.

I did a quick google and the fuji manual has the same maximum weight for road bikes as kestrel does at 275lbs. So you at 260 should be fine. Email Fuji if you want to confirm, but I think you're right.

For your reference the manual is here http://www.fujibikes.com/docs/FUJI+OWNERS+MANUAL.pdf and the bit about rider weights is page 36

What should you do if you train in hot weather and you sweat a lot? Do you drink more water, more sports drink...what about electrolyte supplements? Use this guide to enhance your training.

I drink during my runs but I am a profuse sweater and it seems like I just can't keep up with my fluid needs. Would it be helpful to switch to an electrolyte drink for my fluid needs?

I went into the pool area (as this was a pool swim) and got body marked. That's when it hit me that I was there to race - this was not a clinic.

One year ago I was 90 pounds heavier and dreaming of being able to walk without a wobble. I never considered doing a triathlon.
