Subject: Trip to Phoenix

I will be in Tempe/Scottsdale the end of april for a week. Looking for suggestions for everything and anything.

Will have a vehicle so mobility is not a problem.

Staying at Fairfield Inn near Scottsdale airport.

Nearby Runs? any weekly runs

Nearby Bike/Tri/running shops( bike rentals?)

Good restaurants? Your favourites?

Hikes? Activities? Must see/do things? any other suggestions?

My wife is in a fitness conference for 3 full days so I have time on my hands... :-)

Thanks in advance!

Cheers!

You're coming in time for some hotter weather!

Hiking: The Peralta Trail out in Apache Junction is beautiful and always a popular hike. http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=1422.I'd also check out South Mountain https://www.phoenix.gov/parks/trails/locations/south-mountainas there are many hikes of different lengths and difficulties and it is popular with cyclists as well.

As far as restaurants, something that will suit most people including omnivores, vegans/vegetarians, GF, etc is Mellow Mushroom. The closest is probably the High Street location although they also have one on Mill Ave in downtown Tempe if you are checking out Tempe Town Lake (running/cycling/water) http://mellowmushroom.com/store/phoenix-high-street.Another good option in Tempe is the Cornish Pasty Co http://www.cornishpastyco.com/.

If you're interested in animals, the Southwest Wildlife Animal Conservatory is amazing and tax deductible. http://www.southwestwildlife.org/
The Desert Botanical Garden http://www.dbg.org/is also really cool although I prefer Boyce Thompson Arboretum which is a bit wilder and more natural looking. https://arboretum.ag.arizona.edu/

Have fun!

Yes, you are coming at a very warm time of year. But still beautiful in the morning and evenings!

You are staying pretty close to some great hiking/trail run routes - check out McDowell Mtn Preserve: http://www.mcdowellsonoran.org/trailhead/displayLocation/1#sthash.i...

Arizona Outback Adventures - http://aoa-adventures.com
they rent road and mountain bikes and have a good selection and is close to where you are.

Destination Kona is the closest tri shop to you at the Scottsdale Promenade
Road Runner Sports is the nearest run shop (Mayo blvd and Scottsdale road)
Landis, Bicycle Ranch and Performance Bike are close by bike shops
Sole Sports is on Indian Bend and Hayden and has weekly runs and a GREAT group of people! - In the same shopping center is Wildflower bread company and The Cove Trattoria - great places for meals after! Hopdaddy has GREAT burgers (Scottsdale rd and Shea)
OHSO and Grabbagreen have great food - (101 and Frank Lloyd Wright)

Hope you have a great time!

didn't Destination Kona north close?  I think they put everything in the other Scottsdale location

There is also the Phoenix Mountain Preserve in the middle of town - - lots of good hiking/running trails
