Since we are swim heavy thread wise- please write me a non boring 2000 yard swim workout ;-). (Anything but fly). Looking for simple base building without falling asleep.

Did you want that with or without flip turns?

How often are you 2k ?   One day a week I have limited time at the pool.  I use that day for 20  x 100.  I have a set interval with a goal of lowering in x weeks or a month.  So if I am holding 1:30 now I want to at 1:25 in a month.   If all your swims are 2k it might not be all that exciting.  Most of my workouts are probably boring outside mixing in IM sets

I only swim once a week - twice leading up to a race sometimes. I swam through college (so other than my anti-social reasons called out in the other thread-yes on flip turns) I don't focus much on swimming- I usually try to avoid it as much as possible until I can swim outside- but I signed up for an early race this summer and need to suck it up and start swimming.

20 x 100s would make me want to poke my eyes out ;-)

I did it tonight , sort of and it made the time fly by.   400 WU , 16 x 100 , last 3 IM.  I was a sprinter so anything over a 200 makes me want to poke my eyes out.

Normally I avoid the flip turn threads because they're brutal.   Now I have to go read it.

Not exactly 2000 yrds but you can adjust to fit your needs. It takes me forever to warm up......

600 warm up
3 x (200 descend, 4 x 50 sprint)
8 x 25
200 cool down

or

600 warm up
4 x (3 x 100 descend, 200 pull) with some 50's kick thrown in
200 cool down

or

400 moderate/easy
2 x 200 a little faster
4 x 100
400 trying to hold the 4 x 100 pace

or

500 warm up
15 x 50
50 easy recover
8 x 100 working on alternating breathing 3 breaths, 5 breaths, 7 breaths
2 x 100 hard
200 cool down

Not sure what you consider boring but most of my main sets are 2000m and are one of the following:

20x100m (usually descending 1-4)
5x400m
10x200m

I did a broken mile today.

Timed 1650 in a 25 yd pool - 275, 250, 225, 200, 175, 150, 125,100, 75, 50, 25.  Take a 10 sec. break between each and subtract 1:40 from the total.  Add a little warm up and cool down and you'll have a 2000 yard swim.  Not boring and goes by really quick.

I've been enjoying easy/build/easy/hard (EBEH) sets. 400's with EBEH each 100. Also 200's with EBEH each 50. Enough variety in pace to not be monotonous, and a bit of rest here and there after the hard efforts. You could do 100's with EBEH each 25 but 20 of those could be mind numbing.

Same idea but this is one of my go-to's if my time to train is really limited and I want to get in some intensity--Swim the 2000m continuously (or maybe break it up into 2 X 1000m) and do it easy/hard by 50m (or 100m). "Hard" should be well under your Oly race pace. It makes the time (and the workout) go by pretty fast. I can do this at close to my race pace for the distance, when you average out the pace between the slow and fast laps.

x10

100 Free

100 IM

x2

200 Free

200 IM

x2

100 Free

Since you don't want fly, just sub in 25 free at the beginning of each IM. You can vary the intensity as you want to give it some more variety. I find rotating swim strokes makes it much less boring too.

Or you want some more free you can do what I did today for my main set:

x5

100 Free (Hard)

200 Free (Smooth)

100 IM (Easy)

My go to (but boring) 2000yd workout is:

200 warm-up
5 x 100 free
5 x 200 free (this is where I'm supposed to be working on my form)
5 x 100 free (hopefully at at faster pace than the first set)
cooldown

get to work late

I have another one that is usually just 100's (75's for fly) of each stroke in IM order, maybe a 100IM at the end, and maybe some extra free if i have time or energy

It's unfortunate but it seems like most of our pools are just constructed that way so we are stuck with it.

And the ongoing list of workouts has been great.  There are a few of them I've going to add in.

As a non-American, I've always found it amusing that the 3 countries that officially cling to Imperial units are Liberia, Myanmar, and the United States.

:-)

As an engineer, it would make my job about 1,000 times easier if we switched to the metric system. Believe me, I'd love it. However, I wouldn't count on it in 'merica. That being said, I just find that meme absolutely hilarious...I mean, look that the eagle's face...how does that not make you laugh? I crack up every time I see it.

P.S. I swim in a 25 meter pool.
