Races During Challenge: 1-Memphis in May Sprint (5-16).

4/5: 250.3(+3.5). It looks like I have my work cut out for me.

Mid week and I'm still 250.5. Kinda surprising after the "mental health food" breakdown I had yesterday...

Where did everyone from the last challenge go?

Hi I would like to join in.
I am Nicole. I am 41 and new to Triathlons. I just finished 11 weeks of training from the beginning (I was holding my nose when I swam) and did my first Sprint on Sunday.
Starting weight 147.6
goal is 130

I had some difficutlies dropping weight while training. I did drop 8 lbs. I am not sure what to be expected since everyone is different. I work out 6 days a week.
I have to say I got sucked into Easter. My weakness is chocolate, the house is clean of it now.
I am already back into my training. I plan to compete either in June or July 11 and again August 23.
My husband is a cyclist and my 2 sons- 11yr and 8yr just did their first youth triathlons on Saturday.

I am in! And I need help!!

My goal for the Spring is to get down to 170.

That is still above my race weight from the past few years, but I have been struggling since winter. I had pneumonia in February, plantar fasciitis problems in my right foot, and a torn miniscus in my left knee. I just went this morning and had a second blood test done for my thyroid. The last test showed my levels really high. I am hoping this may help with some of my issues - including my falling asleep at inappropriate times and places!! Anyone else have an underactive thyroid? Wow, reading that I sound like I am really a complainer and blaming my weight on everything but myself! I know much of it is just my poor choices. Training has been pretty much non-existence and eating has been out of control! My first race of the season is a local sprint on June 13.

I am starting today at 190.

My apologies... I haven't been paying attention since it seemed like noone wanted to play. So...

Goal: 7lbs from the end of the previous challenge (247.0): 240.0
Races During Challenge: 1 or 2: Memphis in May Sprint (5-16). Still debating on Gearhead Tri (Jonesboro, AR - 6/21)

4/5: 250.5(+3.5). It looks like I have my work cut out for me.
4/26: 249.5(+2.5). I'll be honest, I've been struggling.

I am struggling to get back into my 6 days of working out after my first Sprint 4/12. I cut out all sugars and have been eating cleaner. That is how I dropped the lb. I am not hungry all the time which is good.
I got in 30 minutes(5 miles) on the trainer today. I need to get my speed back up.

I started my new thyroid medication last week. I guess it takes a couple weeks to build up and really have any effect. I have not been on the scale, but I did wear a pair of pants yesterday that I couldn't wear before! Excited about that!
We are headed to California for vacation tomorrow. We shall see how that goes...
Keep up the good work everyone!

I have done a 10 day no sugar detox. It has helped me to walk away from sweets.
I am working on cutting my grain carbs to 2x a day. I am training for sprint triathlons and train 6 days a week between 45-60 minutes a session and do 9 session a week. Swim 3x, bike3x, weights 2x, yoga 1x, plus walks. My hip is acting up so I'm not running right now.
I'm starting to see the scale moving again since I removed the sugar.

6/21:

I've decided to run the Gearhead over the Mighty Mite due to time between races:

Memphis in May to Gearhead is 5 weeks. Gearhead to Riverbluff is 7 weeks.
Memphis in May to Mighty Mite is 9 weeks. Mighty Mite to Riverbluff is 3 weeks.

Since Memphis in May changed locations this year, I am not going for a PR. That leaves Riverbluff as my only opportunity to beat a time from last year. I'd much rather have 7 weeks to prep over 3 weeks.

My weight is starting to move down again which is good. I have cut back on some of my carbs and I'm getting back into my workouts. I missed some this weekend but kept busy in the yard instead. I have increased my yards in the pool and miles on the bike with more hills. My next triathlon is in 8 weeks. I have added weights in but I need to be more consistent with them. I feel it could really help.

My pacing and transition times improved across the board and Memphis in May. New venue with a longer swim and worse weather, but I knocked over 8 minutes off of last year.

It is slow going for change. I have gotten back into a routine like before my first tri in April. Although now I do weights instead of run. I am supposed to take it easy and rest my I T band. I walk the dog instead.

It kinda stinks that it has been a month and it is only 2 lbs difference from 4/26 until now. Set backs are a bummer. Oh well, I will keep on working on it.

Good luck on your upcoming race!!

Due to my wife spending a bit of time in the hospital, I am dropping the Gearhead race. TBH, every little bit is needed right now, and since the race hadn't been paid for yet... *shrug*

She's actually doing much better. We found out why she popped a fever/infection and let's just say she's not too happy. Side effect of having a nurse as a patient is not being able to talk your way around much, LOL. She's been released back to work, but we're going to have to go through round 2 in a few weeks.

It is a bummer on the race, but you know what they say about one door closing... I was goofing around this weekend and I found an event in October that'll cover one of my goals this year quite nicely. There's a ride called the Arkansas Flatlander that is a supported metric century ride. Since that's one of my goals for the year (was planning on unsupported), it's far enough away that all this medical fun should be over, and it's 25% of the cost of the sprint I was going to do... It's a no-brainer. Since I pulled off a 38mi ride just yesterday, I should have no issues getting ready in that time frame either.

Thanks! I was shooting for 40, but misjudged my turnaround. It was technically an out and back, but I did come back a slightly different way and it cost me 1.5mi... oh well! Don't know it this is going to work...

Training in the cold can be effective and fun with some planning. Overall, prepare for the environment, stay hydrated and dry, listen to your body and have a great safe cold weather outing.
