Subject: New to this era of triathlons
Referred to this site by a friend who competed in a number of triathlons...I use to run triathlons back in the 80's when they first became popular with the public, I mostly competed in sprint triathlons but life took over and I stopped competing in the triathlons. Started running Half and Full Marathons as it was easy to and not expensive...
Still run half and full marathons but have been encouraged to start competing in triathlons again.Want to start with the sprint and eventually run the full triathlon.
At this point I am running 30-40 miles per week and swimming just one day a week in the pool with approx mileage 1.5 miles...started riding my bike again with a few friends.
I am 55 years old and looking for advice on training but most important is the gear bought by triathletes ie Swim suit, and bike shoes and of course anything to do with the bike as all this together becomes very expensive if you just go out and buy stuff.

Welcome back to triathlon and to BT! Wow. You're like a triathlon pioneer, great stuff!

That's a perfectly good, reliable bike to get you through any distance triathlon, really. Build your cycling legs back on it and if you want later to add a triathlon-specific bike you always can.

Already a cyclist and not a bad swimmer, I figured all I had to do was build up to running a few miles and I’d be ready to go. The challenge invigorated me, and I ran out to buy new running shoes.
