Subject: Taken the plunge!
Well, after talking about losing weight and getting fit for years, I've taken the plunge and I'm doing a Novice Sprint Triathlon in early July.

Not a great swimmer, but can get by, ok on the bike and a "will get there eventually" runner; looking to shed a big chunk of my 18 stone in the next few months!!

Going to be hard, but determined and know I can do it (I lost 4 stone in 5 months a few years back....then it gradually went back on!)

Hope there's some good advice and support on here!!

Cheers
Pete

I see that you're logging already and did your first swim, great job!

Yeah - trying to do at least a little every day - taking it easy to build up hoping that the weight loss will make things easier as it goes.

The swim was tough - had a good few stops in it - but I'm aware that my technique is terrible - hence I know I need to fix that. Trying to read up on things as much as possible and put that into practice to make it more effective. Really if I can plod through the swim, I'm happy that I'll get the rest done.

Realistically my target is to finish; even if I'm dead last and everyone else has gone home, that's fine.

Once I can swim the 400 without having to have a rest, and my rear gets used to longer in the saddle I'll be a happy man. I know it's different doing the run after swim and bike that just running; but when it gets to that stage I'll be happy!

Run this evening (will try to get through the full 3K) and then swim in the morning

Cheers!
Pete

Yesterday evening - full 3k, no stops/walks and felt ok by the end of it. Timed at 23:01, so 7'41 pace....I know this might slow up when I've done swim/bike before, but by the time the tri rolls around, I should have lost a few stone too!

Swimming will come, it take a few months honestly to just get the lungs used to breathing that way, but if you can get the pool 3-4 times per week, that should make some quick progress.

I now find that after sitting for long periods of time during the day for two hours or so my knees are very stiff and weak when I then try to move them. Do I need to take better care of my knees?
