"She is believed to have slipped onto the course after the last checkpoint in an attempt to fool race officials into believing she ran the entire 26.2 miles. Officials said that Schler did not register any times on the route, and that a review of last year’s marathon photos failed to turn up images of her on the course." |

I guess it shouldnt come as a huge surprise that someone would do this, but it makes me so mad to see people with such a warped sense of entitlement. She robbed the true winner out of experiencing the win as she should have. And she robbed at least one person of a spot in the Boston Marathon. She was registered to run tomorrow with her faked time from last year and almost got away with it. I suspect she cheated again this year planning to "qualify" for 2016. Her only mistake was winning the marathon. (Although even if she had come in a later place and tried to claim an official time, she would have raised suspicion- last year they gave her the benefit of the doubt when she claimed "timing strip malfunction." I doubt they'd fall for that again.) Edited by jennifer_runs 2015-04-19 7:13 PM |

701 | Subject: RE: That's one way to win a marathon I was at the Cardinal game last night and got to cheer on the real winner as she ran around the field and broke the tape at home plate with Jackie Joyner-Kersee, etc. Then she threw out the first pitch. Pretty early before the game, so everybody wasn't in their seats. But, those that were stood and cheered very loudly. I lost my voice cheering for her, not the Redbirds. Speculation from newsy-types around here and race officials: Looks like the other gal was cheating to qualify (again) for the Boston Marathon and misjudged the timing/entry point and wound up in first...accidentally. The same gal came in third last year, with similar timing chip issues. They manually entered her time. Speculation from me: I agree with that speculation. If you look at the pictures of her at the finish line....she looks TERRIFIED. |

New user 1351 Austin, Texas | Subject: RE: That's one way to win a marathon So awesome that they did that for her, and she regained composure throughout all of it, like a real winner. Could there be any legal ramifications for the cheater? Fraud? I mean she did lie and was awarded prize money. |

New user 1351 Austin, Texas | Subject: RE: That's one way to win a marathon Yea I knew that they wouldn't actually give it to her, but if you were caught cheating at the lottery and didn't get the money, I don't imagine you'd walk away with a slap on the wrist |

Member 1004 | Subject: RE: That's one way to win a marathon The marathons that I've run in have lots of mats scattered along the course. You'd think that the computer would have some kind of flag if someone missed some mats that would immediately draw it to the attention of the organizers. |

If you look at the pictures of her at the finish line....she looks TERRIFIED. Yup, I agree-- it looks like she figured, "That was too easy. I'm going to Boston this year, all I have to do is fake it again and I can go to Boston in 2016." She just wasn't planning on winning. However, even if she came in some later time, I doubt they would been able to claim "I didn't know I needed to keep the timing strip on" and have them take her word for it two years in a row. That's a very nice thing they did for the real winner. |
