Subject: Saw a few jellyfish on a recent swim....... (imgs)

 

 

 

 

 

Jellyfish Lake, Palau, is an inland lake that was once exposed to the sea.  The land closed around it, trapping golden jellyfish in the lake, which have evolved to lose their defenses, so they have no sting.  They drop to the bottom at night, and rise to follow the arc of the sun during the day to feed the symbiotic algae that live inside them.

Wow! Those are really great pictures. I'm not too sure I would want to swim with them though! Very cool.

thanks    they're really just soft and mushy and bounce out of the way.

No, no stings.   They have no predators in the lake so it evolved out of them
