Subject: 10/11 speed crankset difference?
I'm far from being a knowledgeable bike mechanic and much of this 10 speed and 11 speed difference and conversion is way over my head.

That being said, I have a 10 speed Ultegra Cannondale Slice ('11) with the Profile carbon crankset (that came with it). I'm looking at getting a Quarq power meter, and the person I spoke with about it said the Sram crankset powermeter will work fine with my Ultegra everything else. I don't doubt that, unless I mis-interpreted because he's a very knowledgeable and respected triathlete and coach.

But is there a difference in the Sram/Quarq powermeter itself, depending on 10 or 11 speed bike? Do the front gears and cranks have anything different about them (besides maybe the front derailleur) depending on rear configuration?

Thanks for the help, all this stuff makes my head hurt a bit.

Gonzo,

Here's a link to a very reputable source, Lennard Zinn. He emailed SRAM with compatibility questions, and posted the answers.

I've used 10-spd chain rings with 11 speed drive train without any issues at all.

I have a Quarq on my road bike with SRAM Red 10. I put Praxis chain rings on it for two reason, needed a set that work with SRAM Yaw front derailure and I wanted a 10/11 compatible crank for when I move that bike to 11sp. As it turns out a team mate as a complete new Red 11 kit he wants to sell. So I'm trying to see if he will part out the cassette, rear derailure, and shifters keeping the rest of my build kit as is. Will then move the 10sp Red to my Cyclocross bike and retire the last 9sp bike I have.

BTW SRAM will say you need their 11sp chain rings. The Praxis ones are nicer anyways.

I'm curious about the 'don't increase your run by more than 10% per week' rule. Is there a minimum mileage under which this doesn't apply?

How should I go about training for the marathon while also building base in the other two events? Doing this seems like it's causing me to break the 10% rule in running.

Yes, the Dual is a little heavier than Cervèlo’s high end counterparts. But…the price is within reach of the masses and it still incorporates all of the design features that make a Cervèlo special.
