Subject: Training for First Olympic
Greetings! Two year Triathlete with seven sprints and a Du completed. Looking to increase the distance from sprint to Olympic

Started off five years ago running to lose a little weight. A little running became a 5K became a 10K became a 10M...I think you get the picture. Had a bought of tendonitis in 2012 and had to cut back on the running when I remembered that a kid I could swim and bike. Not a fast swimmer by any means but was able to train for and compete in my first Tri in September of 2012. I came in second in my age group - because there were only two of us!! I will never podium but I love the sport. Looking forward to my first Oly this fall. I can already do all the distances but just have to put it together. The goal is an Half Iron next summer. Just set a PR for half marathon last week at the Pro Football Hall of Fame HM. Don't know if I will ever be able to do a marathon - trained for one last year but after two 20 mile training runs my back gave out. I have suffered from an extruded disc for 10 years. Just excited to participate regardless if it is training or an actual race.

Welcome to the site!  Just enjoy the journey and be mindful of your back as you go longer as running long and biking (especially in the drops) could irritate it.  I assume the HM training and race went without any pain?

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

I looked at the swim buoys and start thinking, "Man! How am I ever going to swim that? That looks like a very long distance from the bridge. I have never done it in one go." There's no turning back.

Is one month enough time to recover from my first marathon to go and do my first olympic tri? My alternative options are to do the 1/2 marathon and then do the olympic.

After your first triathlon, how many days off should you take to rest? How should you start your training again?

I signed up for a Sprint in July, an Olympic distance in September, and the Alcatraz tri in October. If I'm going to do it, I'm going to do it all the way.
