Pre-race routine:

Drove an hour and a half to the mall, parked, and hopped the Bloomsday bus. Ate three peanut butter whole wheat pancake sandwiches during the drive. Had only a few sips of water to wash the sandwiches down. Also took 900mg Ibuprofen and a Hydrocodone before hopping on the bus to downtown.

Event warmup:

Did some stretches and 100-Up drills. Talked to other runners and hit the beach balls when they came my way. Watched people throw pants, jackets, and shirts in trees. WTF???

  • 13m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

Didn't have anything to drink pre-race so I wouldn't have to worry about it. Hit the water stations every time; drank some and dumped some on my head. Just wore my little running skirt and a camisole.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Followed everyone else to the t-shirt area. Got my shirt and then walked around and looked at the different vendors. Bought a new dress, a slice of pizza, and a maple-bacon donut (Dawn of the Donuts!). Maple-bacon donuts aren't quite as delicious as they sound.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My body. My knees didn't give me any problems, and I didn't have any problems with foot dragging. However, my hips hurt pretty badly. Not from bursitis, but at the joints. I probably need to eat fewer donuts and less pizza.

Event comments:

I will do this again!

I can train for half marathons on pavement and on trails, but as soon as I change it up to gravel or loose dirt my knee swells and the pain it causes is unreal. Any ideas why this happens?
