Hi.

I spent most of my life reasonably fit playing all sports and could pretty much go out and put together a 5-K at will. In 2008 and 2009 I got into running consistently and ran a few 10-k's, 5 or 6 HM's and did one mini-sprint triathlon. I went into a spring 2009 marathon (Country Music) undertrained and bonked hard. Walking the last 6 miles and finishing in 5 something. That coupled with some job hour changes led to me quitting running / endurance sports period for the past five years and getting way way out of shape and ballooning from 215 up to my current 255.

I just want to get back into it and hope lurking around these forums and getting back into some community will be the trick. I am going to start out just working on building up my running and hope to mix in some cycling / swimming as cross training.

Goals. I only have a few:
1) Enjoy it again
2) Lose some lbs.
3) Complete a 2016 Oly Tri
4) Reclaim some old PRs (22 5k, 51 10k, 2:01 HM).

Thanks
- Asher

Welcome!  Sounds like with a little patience you will be back to your old form in no time.  Emphasis on the patience.  Don't try to rush the results, or push to far or too fast too soon, that will only cause heartbreak and injury.  Good luck!

Welcome!  I see that you are logging so that is definitely a start.  Having your training log minicalendar fill up with colors is definitely a motivator...and nobody likes to see an empty week on the training graph.

Your fitness will come back, give time and don't rush it.  A big problem I have seen (and experienced) is trying to regain former PR's or fitness too fast which leads to injury.  Just have fun through your first tri and build up some good base without much, if any, speedwork.

Thanks for the advice. No speedwork is so hard but i hopefully i can avoid it (enough).

Hi, my name is Magda and this is my first triathlon. I enjoy cycling which is my strongest of the three. Although, I used to be an avid swimmer and it has been awhile. I will start swimming a few times a week and beginning in June will have the option to swim at work daily. I am hoping that will increase my endurance. Any tips would be beneficial. Thank you in advance for your support.

Welcome!  The option to swim at work daily makes me jealous.  You are correct, it will definitely increase and build your swimming endurance fast.  Getting in the pool 3, optimally 4 times per week will make quick progress.
