Event warmup:

30 mile ride and 3 mile bricks.
Swim
  • 24m 27s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 38s / 100 meters
Comments:

Felt strong in the swim. This was my first time racing in a wet suit and it took 20" off my average pace
What would you do differently?:

Nothing the swim went great. Very little kick good smooth stroke.
Transition 1
  • 02m 53s
Bike
  • 1h 13m 24s
  • 26 miles
  • 21.25 mile/hr
Comments:

Good ride overall and really enjoyed some of the roads. I only took Gatorade in my speed fill and found myself really wanting water at the half way mark
What would you do differently?:

Definitely going to pack water on the bike from now on. I really thought the Gatorade would be fine but it left me with real bad cotton mouth.
Transition 2
  • 02m 23s
Run
  • 1h 00m 1s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 09m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

I entered the run really wanting water only to find that there was only 2 water stations and 1 of them was out of water. The station only had 1 5 gallon jug and it was empty.
What would you do differently?:

I'm planning on using the water bottle we always get in the packet for water on the course. I can always trash the bottle after the water is gone.
Post race
Event comments:

Very few volunteers and the course was sometimes hard to read.

I just posted my report on the same race. The lack of water on the run was really bad. I don't really like to carry my own and don't think I should have to.

I looked at the swim buoys and start thinking, "Man! How am I ever going to swim that? That looks like a very long distance from the bridge. I have never done it in one go." There's no turning back.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

Keep in mind that the taper period is as important to your body as all of the long hours you’ve put in the pool, on the bike and on the road. It is meant to help you rest, recover and rejuvenate.
