Hello all! Returning triathlete in KC MO. I used to post here under a different name (JCDenton2000), but decided a clean start was best, so I started a new account. I'm back on my feet running again after healing up from a nasty IT band tear in 2012 while training for a marathon. I'm hoping for a 1/2 marathon finish at the KC Marathon events in October and we'll go from there. I may do a couple super sprints for fun (Cameron has a great super sprint) and ease myself back in. Back in 2010 I toed the line for the Kansas HIM and DNFd the bike portion, which lingers with me even still. Hopefully by late 2016 or 2017 I'll be back to HIM shape and ready to roll.

Welcome Rob!

Just take it easy and enjoy the first year back.  You'll get back to where you were, just give it time.  Your training log is shaping up, good job!

Thanks for the welcome Ron! I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of things and getting a solid base re-established.

Congrats on coming back. I'm also returning to the sport after a long downtime. I had a DNF at Ironman Wisconsin after a hard bonk 13 miles through the run over 10 years ago and it still haunts me, so I feel you on that lingering feeling... they aren't fun.

As endurance athletes, by definition we must go to our borders to find our center. There is meaning in suffering, we tell ourselves, but not in stupidity.

I have a torn labrum in the right hip that I'm getting surgery for this Friday. Also the doctor is grinding some bone that caused it to tear. Do you have any good ideas on returning to training?

Is there a point of diminishing returns? At some point, age catches up with us all. In general, as we age, VO2 max decreases, body fat increases, and muscular strength drops off.

Does it matter how fast you go? Does it matter if you win? No. It only matters that you tri your best and smile when you cross the finish line.
