In order to work around my wife's training schedule I need to start getting in sessions at night once the kids go down. I eat a decent dinner before the workout, but find myself hungry when I finish. Anything other than a protein shake or beer you guys would recommend?

I train evenings (sometimes late) 90% of the time. Immediately post workout it's liquid calories in the form of dextrose and branched chain amino acids or protein powder. Shortly afterwards it's often berries with nuts and some egg whites. (Or I throw yolks with, instead of nuts)

I usually grab nuts or cottage cheese in the evening.

Beer, always beer..... If beer is one of the the choices then it's beer. Should beer not be an option the answer is still most likely beer.

How long is the session? What is the intensity? The answer to those questions is the beginning point to determine if you need to eat anything.

Sessions are typically 45 min - 90 min at moderate to high intensity. Dinner is usually 2 hrs prior and consists of lean protein, complex carb and some sort of veggie.

I've used Gold Standard Whey protein often, but I've since deviated from that unless I know it's going to be long before I get food in. When I know I am getting food in within the next 2 hours, I use Branched Chain Amino Acid powder (Ultimate Nutrition BCAA 12000) Good Blend - Good taste; especially matched with a little bit of gatorade and dextrose.

Many people's opinions differ on nutrition, but I spent decades building muscle up and working hard at it. In this sport of conditioning I do not want to lose all that hard earned muscle. So I am diligent on calorie and protein consumption - and the timing of it all.

I find this is occurring after almost every workout. The pattern is always the same: freezing 10 min after a workout and 2 hours to warm up again. I am not sick. My diet is healthy.
