Precipitation
Total Time = 1h 25m 52s
Overall Rank = 157/315
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 17/28
Pre-race routine:

Sat in the car while the rain came down. Lots of thunderstorms that morning. Transition area was soaked and the rain continued through the swim.
Event warmup:

Swam a little before the race
Swim
  • 13m 57s
  • 586 yards
  • 02m 23s / 100 yards
Comments:

The course was a said to be a triangle course. I made the first buoy and saw the second green buoy and headed straight for it. I was told by a canoe that I had missed an orange buoy and had to back track, which I did. really through me off the rest of the race. I was so upset, I was expecting around 11 minutes, not 14. I swam an additional 120 yds. I now many people just headed for the buoy.
What would you do differently?:

sight better, and either know the course better or just keep trucking to the 2nd green buoy like others did.
Transition 1
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

This went pretty well. My only issue is that I am such a tender foot and running barefoot on the pavement sucks!
What would you do differently?:

not much
Bike
  • 39m 34s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.20 mile/hr
Comments:

After the crappy swim, I decided I needed to crush the bike, so I went out harder than normal. I Knew it might affect my run, but I did not care. I was able to pass a ton of people and felt fast! I stayed in aero a lot. The roads were wet with some flowing water going all the way across the roads, wasn't an issue but it made me nervous.
What would you do differently?:

train more, moving to a new house at the end of April really hurt my overall fitness
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

I could not get my feet out of my shoes cause they were so wet! For some idiotic reason, I thought I could run with out socks since my feet were already soaked. I never run without socks! Not sure what I was thinking.
What would you do differently?:

out socks on!
Run
  • 29m 42s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

This run was tough because I was undertrained, made the bonehead call to go without socks, and it seemed long. My watch never picked up after T2 and the messed with my head also. The first turnaround seemed really close and I though I had it made, but there was a second turnaround that seemed to last forever. My feet were hurting pretty bad and I finally had to muster through it once I got on the levy. I was really surprised I was under 30 minutes
What would you do differently?:

train more and wear socks
Post race
Warm down:

hung out with my tri team and cheered everyone on

What limited your ability to perform faster:

under trained. We moved in late April and I pretty much did not do anything.

Event comments:

I was still able to hit my goal of 1:25, but I know I could have been under 1:20 if I had been trained up and not made the mistakes on the swim.

I had issues with the buoy as well. After rounding the first green, there was a group of 10-15 hollering to the canoes about which way to go.

Good job on getting 'er done! I had to laugh about the socks - really, it's amusing how decision making can work on a race day - even when you know better!

Congrats on getting through - and i hope your feet are recovering!

Most people believe that running barefoot is dangerous. Certainly, depending upon the surface, they would be correct. However, there is some suggestion that running barefoot may reduce injuries.

Are these races too close together to give me any sort of recovery? Will I be spent and unhappy racing back to back weekends and then again two weeks after that?

The challenge? The accomplishment? I want to do this because it is an opportunity to live life. The event is an indoor sprint triathlon. I get to experience the challenge on a safer scale.

This plan is designed to make you go faster. 3 workouts per week in each sport, 2 days of strength training and core work. The maximum volume is around 10 hours toward the end of the 12 weeks.

Since your “A” race is your marathon, which you stated in your question, this should be your main focus. I encourage you to taper a bit for the sprint distance triathlon.
