Not sure if this was posted before, but quite interesting on how our brain can learn and be difficult to unlearn.

First couple minutes looked like this should have been posted in the flying mount thread.

Very interesting to watch.

"Muscle memory" (automaticity of movements due to strong neural connections), not exactly "understanding" in a cognitive sense. It was interesting how the kid was able to unlearn conventional bike riding much more quickly, since those neural pathways aren't nearly as deeply engrained as in an adult.

I went through something like this with bilateral breathing--it took me FOREVER--as in over a year--to get it to feel natural, even with really good coaching. (I've been swimming since infancy, and probably doing freestyle since age 5 or 6.) One of my friends, a much slower and less experienced swimmer, who's never shown any exceptional athletic skill, mastered it in a few weeks with the same coaching and drills. I've also seen lots of kids master it fairly quickly. It actually took an injury that kept me from breathing to my dominant side for a couple of months to really master breathing to the non-dominant side. But I don't recall any "unlearning" process--once the injury healed, I retained the ability to breathe to my dominant side, as well as the new skill of bilateral breathing.

I am in the market for a new road bike, at several local bike stores I will test ride several bikes. Other than basic fit and components, how should I compare them while doing a test ride?

The most valuable thing you can do for your endurance training is to schedule a weekly 2-4hr long ride from now until the end of time. Simply make this “what you do” every Saturday or Sunday morning.

I read an article that this type of pain comes from straining the neck, especially from riding a road bike. What can you tell me about this type of injury?

Known for its brutal cadences, nasty sprints and 12-minute hills, the spin class seems to be the perfect substitute for a raunchy ride outside. But is it?
