Here goes, Kids ... I'm sneaking up on 64 pretty quickly here and am fighting "getting old" tooth and nail. I have never been an exercise type of guy but walk daily and, now and then, walk a half marathon. I did a sprint triathlon 15 years ago and have decided one good way to fight the age monster is to do another one (or several). To that end, I have begun training for a sprint event in November.

I'll be asking lots of questions and whining quite a bit about being sore, out of shape, tired, or whatever. Be patient ... and thanks for the help.

Nice, welcome back to Tri!

I've always said that cycling is the fountain of youth. Some of the guys I ride with around your age are crazy fast, healthy and just having fun doing bunny hops on the bike!

Good luck in your comeback.

Welcome to BT!

I'm one of the "senior citizens" around here at 62.   Did my first sprint tri 11 years ago, three years after open heart surgery.

There are some accommodations I've had to make due to age, mostly due to the need for more recovery time after races or hard workouts, but otherwise, it's full speed ahead.

I'd suggest you might want to take a look at Joe Friel's recent book "Fast After 50"  which discusses the challenges of aging for athletes.

Good luck with your training.

Mark

I didn’t used to like to run slow. You begin to recalibrate your needs and wants and if-only you could jog an easy two miles, three times per week. Running is a gift.

He looked at us and flat out told us that he wouldn't accept any of us as his students at a technical diving level with the poor level of physical fitness we had.

Get inspired to race a triathlon even if your older.
