Uh-oh, we're back in sync again (sorta). But I'm NOT doing an IM!

AM 60 minute run
PM 2200m of swimming. Really thought I would get stormed out but it didn't hit until about 20 minutes after I finished!

Long day, with double workouts, teaching all day, and my students' spring concert tonight. They looked so grown up all dressed up. Will lose my "babies" in two weeks and send them on to middle school.

Back to back workouts this morning to fit it all in.

5:15- 60 min power spin - my group has been commenting that the workouts are getting harder and harder. Good thing next week we take a step back in intensity.

6:30am - 2 mile easy run

7:15am - 2000yd swim - 3x600 with warm up and cool down. I like the longer sets much better than shorter harder ones!

Now off to the park and activities with my kiddos. Have a great day!

35m run intervals; got down to 7:30s on the last couple intervals, recovering at my goal race pace (9:00/mile) for the KC Half-Marathon in October. Felt great, actually, and everything was flowing very smoothly on the run. Yes, it was on the treadmill, but it was still a good workout.

Would happily do the swim. Other than the possibility of being kicked in the head, it's the one aspect of IM that doesn't frighten me and that I'm really confident I could manage. The rest....no thanks!

I had a semi-disaster run in that I apparently have no idea how to pace myself. The goal was a 5 mile tempo run at marathon pace, and I accidently ran a minute per mile faster than marathon pace. No wonder I was winded. I don't have a garmin so I did what I could by planning mile markers ahead of time, but if I can't get the rhythm after a few more tries I may end up throwin down some moolah for a garmin. Seems like a pretty useful training tool anyway.

You could also use heart rate. Marathon should (I think) be mid to high zone 2 for most people. At least at my current age and run fitness, I wouldn't think of getting out of zone 2 for the first 20 miles or so. I have a Garmin, but I usually turn the pace/distance function off and just do running time and HR--I don't want to look at how slowly I'm running (I'm ALWAYS slow compared with my youthful self, and my ego!) and be tempted to run faster than the purpose of the workout. It's also insurance against running myself into heatstroke. (HR and body temp tend to rise in tandem.)

I am in awe of all if the morning people who do so much training before 8 am. I often think about training in the early am and salute those on the road but unless I am on holidays I don't even start until 5 pm. We all get to the finish line in our own ways.

My day : 5 to 6 strength and resistance training
8to 930 swim practice
10 pm electrolyte replacement

I'm often on my feet pretty much all day from 7:45 AM to 3 PM (4:30 PM if coaching), so it's a lot more appealing for me to get it done early. As a teacher, also, sometimes there are unpredictable demands on one's time after the kids leave (unscheduled meetings, parent e-mails, getting materials ready for an activity, school events, etc.) So far no one at work has demanded my time before 6:30 AM. Plus in early AM the air is clean, there's relatively little traffic, and it's the coolest time of day here. Believe it or not, I'm NOT a morning person at all. When home in Oregon, unless I'm headed to a weekend group ride (9 AM--even bikers don't get up early in my hometown!), or Saturday master's swim (7 AM), my "morning workouts" generally start around 11 AM!

You should salute my cats, not me. They are much more creatures of habit than we are. Once they get used to being fed at 4:45 AM, try sleeping in! And try explaining the concept of "weekend" or "recovery day" to a 14 pound furball bouncing around on your bed.

I'm on the other side of the college-student desk. I'm the one with the red pen in my hand. Those of us with schedules that change from day to day actually have an advantage, I think.
