For people that swap race to training wheels, etc. Do you just drop the extra cash for a cassette on each wheel or do you swap it all each time?

It depends.  I have a couple sets of wheels, and a couple cassettes.  Sometimes I swap cassettes, and sometimes I don't.  It only takes a few minutes to change them.

I have multiple wheels and cassettes. I use each for different situations. Racing & training wheels, hilly & flat cassettes. So cassettes are swapped around on the various wheels depending on the combination of those factors.

one of the best parts of a PT wheel in my opinion is that the whole body comes off easily... so if you are really lazy (like me) you just buy some extra bodies/cassettes and swap them out

Now that we have multiple wheels and 10 and 11 speed bikes, hubs, and cassettes it seems like we are always swapping cassettes.  It's easy and takes about 5 minutes.  My 15 year old daughter can do it on her own.  Everyone should learn the basics of bike maintenance and adjustments.

The cassette swap itself is a piece of cake. Remounting the chain back on is actually harder than replacing a cassette.

It's the GREASE that you have to deal with that inevitably gets on your hands etc. that's the pain with constantly changing cassettes!

So you keep the cassette mounted on the hub? Changing a cassette ain't hard but I'm just lazy enough to fall in love with this idea...

LB, you mistake my laziness for ineptitude. I can totally swap a cassette. I'm just wondering if people bother with spending an extra $100 to make it easier to swap between their $1,000 rear wheel and their $150 rear wheel on their $7000 bikes. (None of mine are worth the examples provided)

I wasn't talking to you......I figure you can handle that.  I'm speaking in general.

+1 I have 3 rear wheels and each has its own cassette, but my race wheels have the real nice one.

If it wasn't for swapping cassettes, I wouldn't be cleaning them nearly as much. So. . . it's probably a good thing. And my wife hates the smell of the degreaser so she stays away when I'm working on the bikes. . . so yeah. . . swapping cassettes is totally worth it

Box of nitrile gloves: http://www.amazon.com/SafeTouch-Nitrile-Gloves-Powder-Medium/dp/B00...

Less than $10 for 100. That is 20 cents each time and if that is still too rich, you can take them inside out and store them with the grime inside. Then, you can flip em back and reuse them a few more times before they crack.

Yes. I do have multiple wheels and each one has a cassette on it (and I do have a few extra cassettes as well for different terrain). Totally worth having the wheel set up and ready to go at any given time.

I try to keep a single cassette with my tri bike that has worn with the chain.  For my training bike I have a few cassettes that I switch around.  Having a cassette that has been used and worn with a different chain can potentially cause skipping problems near  the end of its life.

I have a cassette for my spare wheelset, but only so that I can use them for wheel trucks or pit stops in road racing and crits.

We always seem to be swapping cassettes to accomodate, 10sp, 11sp, whatever wheels we each want to be racing on, but I do like to have wheels with cassettes on them. When I get the flat tire just leaving my house, it's nice to be able to just throw another wheel on there.
