Subject: Flo Wheels
So I bought a power meter last month. I was going to buy the Flo wheels this month, during the June sale. I woke up to see the message the sale was on and the next message was they are sold out. Man that was fast, I did not know they sold so fast.

I guess it's like sitting and waiting for concert tickets to go on sale.

Yep, need to preOrder. It was painful waiting for them to arrive, but worth it.

I signed up for the sale and thought it would be a notice to those that signed up first. I did not see a pre-order spot on the site.

Well that sucks! I signed up for Order 20 and received the confirmation email. I even emailed them to clarify the process, and got a prompt response from Jon that I'd get an email about the sale time-- nothing.

I'm glad you posted this or I would have never known. Looks like it's time to evaluate Plan B. Thanks again for the info.

ETA: I'm open to suggestions if anyone has a preference for an affordable front clincher. I'm thinking about the Zipp 60, but open to suggestions. Would like to stay under $600. I'm going to do a WB cover in back.

If you patience and ever buy on eBay, BT or ST you can get deals.  I picked up my FLO 60/90 for $650 on eBay. Here's a 60/90 set on eBay now.

On ST some have been asking about the Chinese wheels and almost all have come back with favorable reviews if you stay with the known companies. You can get carbon or even Al-fairing like FLO with the same wide and U shape.  I recall someone over there recently asking about the Zipp60 and was told there's much better to choose from.

Thanks for the reply Donto. I recall a thread here where it was suggested the Zipp 60 at full retail is not a good buy-- like $700. But PBK has them for right around $500 shipped.

My limited knowledge about these things tells me the Flo 60 is not really much, or any, better than the Zipp. They're both carbon/alloy with similar configuration  But after shipping, the Flo and the Zipp would be about the same price.

Certainly open to more suggestions and discussion.

The Zipp60 is Al-fairing using the old Hybrid Toriodal shape and the U shaped wheels are suppose to offer better stability in cross winds.  As I recall seeing it stated on ST by one of the "experts", the new 60 (U) handles like the old 40 (HT) and the 80 is like the old 60.  I ride were there are a lot of cross-winds (coastal FL) so I waited for a U shaped wheel to come my way.  Granted in low yaw not that big of a deal, front tire width has a lot to do with aero.

That said, how about looking for a HED Jet C2 wheel.  Here's one on eBay now for a bit more.

Thanks again, Donto. Great stuff and exactly the kind of info and suggestions I'm looking for. i really like that HED Jet C2 and will keep an eye out for that.

And that's inspiring the deal you got on your Flo's. Awesome find.

I got an email from Flo an hour before the sale this morning.....as well as one yesterday. I wasn't even on the list but probably still on the newsletter from last year when I bought mine. For those that can wait til next month I love my 60/90 combo. But would probably go straight 60's if I had to do it over.

My back wheel needs to be trued up. It has a slight side-to-side wobble, and I feel at times like I'm going to lose control when I ride. Is this something that I should only trust to my LBS to do?

The wheels are my first area of concern and I have started to shop around. I find it nauseating to think of spending the same amount for wheels as my bike. Any help?

Being a fast swimmer put me up with the faster athletes. As expected, they started to pass me soon out of transition. Some would just slowly pass. Others with aero wheels would literally buzz by.

This article estimates how much time can be saved in sprint races by converting from stock aero wheels found on most tri bikes to more aero disk and composite spoked wheels.
