That is just too cool. And you know it's organic. You don't get that good through parental nagging. I'm guessing there were times when you wondered if life might be easier if he was just hooked on Xbox.

I don't know if it would be easier....but it sure would be cheaper.  It's no exaggeration at all to say that it has easily cost us as much as a college education to support him to the level he's at......and he has goals and dreams not yet reached.  You are correct, you can't nag a kid to that level and you surely wouldn't pay for it if you had to.  On the other hand, if you have a kid who works hard and sacrifices, I don't feel like you have any choice but to support him/her in the very best way you can.  I don't know how many days he's been up at 4 am to swim before school, then track or XC after school, then a cycling workout, then homework, then off to bed to do it all over again in the morning.  I will support that any day, he's earned it.
