Subject: Stress Fracture in Foot I'm the first to tell people they should be asking questions of their doctor, not the internet. I will be asking my physical therapist and possibly my doctor these questions, but I wanted to get input from BT to make my questions a little more intelligent; I can be pretty dumb.
Anyway, after I fell on the ice, the bottoms of my left tibia and fibula were surgically repaired in March. For the last two weeks, I've been getting tenderness and shooting pain at the distal end of the second metatarsal in the left foot. I can stand for long stretches without pain, and I don't get pain with every step. The two things that reliably provoke it are a ) rising from a seated position and, curiously, b ) a deep or forceful breath or a cough. When I saw the doctor last week, she said the end of the bone maybe looked a little flat on one of the X-ray angles, but it looked fine on the other angles and she didn't see any fracture. She said wear comfortable, well-padded shoes and take it easy.
So what do you think? Does this sound to you like a stress fracture? Is it worth trying to get an appointment to see the doctor tomorrow, or is she just going to say RICE it and call me if it doesn't get any better? |
