I'm on a budget and would like to limit my purchase to under $200, or even lower if possible. Any recommendations on a good GPS watch to buy for tris. I'm not into all the gizmos, simple is good. A heart rate monitor would be nice, but not a requirement.

You can find a used Garmin 910 for under 200, outside chance of HR  monitor included for that price.

You should be able to find an older Garmin 305 for around $50 used and will provide run/bike data. Had one for a couple years and enjoyed it. If you want the basics and cheap, this is well-worth considering.

A 310 can be found for well under $200 and provide more battery life and open water swim metrics.

A 910 has a smaller and more attractive profile with even longer (IM distance) battery life and pool swim metrics and can be found $150-200 used.

used 910. I have a suunto ambit 2s and love it. Its way cheaper than garmin, but still outside your budget for new.

I think you will get the most bang for your $150 with a Garmin 310xt.  I used mine until two weeks ago when I got a 920xt and my wife still uses hers.

I'm checking out gen1 TomTom Runner and Multisport watches on eBay right now for $100 to $150 with HRM.  Read dcrainmakers review, seems to have a fast GPS lock.

I previously had a "nicer" Garmin Forerunner (bike cadence, etc). I now have the FR 15 & I really like. It does as advertised... w/out any fuss.

I paid $80 for my Timex Easy Trainer GPS watch.  Stores but doesn't download workout data.  Just use mine for run training and it works well for that.

I got a 310xt this last fall and love it. Brand new and got it for a great price. Maybe not as many bells and whistles as the 920, but it's a great watch.

Well I said that I was not going to do it this season, but I cracked. I broke down and bought a new bike. I went out and bought a shiny new Cannondale road bike.
