Comments:

As good of a swim as I've ever had here. After the 400 yard swim there is a long run to transition - I need to work on this. I think next time the wetsuit will come off at the shore and I'll run in my bike shoes to transition...................
Transition 1
  • 01m 38s
Bike
  • 32m 40s
  • 5 miles
  • 9.18 mile/hr
Comments:

NOT HAPPY. In addition to getting my chain stuck between my wheel and cassette they added a ton of mulch/wood chips to make the course "safer" this year. Mountain biking is supposed to be on rocks and roots - but whatever - this made it like riding on sand. I looked at the top times and EVERYONE was slower. I still think next time I can cut off 5 minutes which will make me happy.
Transition 2
  • 00m 55s
Run
  • 30m 54s
  • 3 miles
  • 10m 18s  min/mile
Comments:

Decent trail run for me. Thought I was a little faster while I was out there but it's only race #1 - I've got 8 or 9 to go! :)

Good job on the first race of the series!  Now you will know what to expect next time out, and hopefully those darn wood chips get packed down or scooched off the trail until the next race.

Nice idea!

Great report and great race. You learned what you need to do next time, and next time, and... 8 or 9?!?!?! Wow. Fun series!

Great work!

That is frustrating about the layer of "safety" they added. I guess you could consider it an extra training stimulus haha.

As for running time, yeaaaah anything off the road has to be though of more effort based because time doesn't mean much!

I own both a road bike and a tri bike. I am wondering which bike I should be riding during off season training, or does it matter?

The XTERRA off-road triathlons consist of a lake swim, a mountain bike trail ride, and a trail run. I decided to try the AZ Xtreme Desert XTERRA Tri as my 1st off-road triathlon, and my 3rd tri ever.
