Sunny
Total Time = 5h 19m 3s
Overall Rank = 226/
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 32/
Pre-race routine:

Sit on my butt
Event warmup:

N/A
Swim
  • 30m 51s
  • 2112 yards
  • 21m 55s / 1500 yards
Comments:

Got out ahead in the first 300m then ran into previous wave athletes. Time was slowed some due to the congestion. Was unaware of my placing coming out of the water due to the previous wave being my AG as well.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

No issues. Just staying calm to keep the HR down.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 2h 18m 34s
  • 56 miles
  • 24.25 mile/hr
Comments:

Easy bike. Kept the power below target due to the temperature/humidity/dew point. Aero 99% of the time. After first 30 minutes was pretty much all alone to the bike finish.
What would you do differently?:

Keep power down coming out of the turns.
Transition 2
  • 01m 39s
Comments:

No flying dismount this year. I had 8 minute AG lead at this point. Wasn't worried about the ~10 seconds being saved.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 2h 26m 10s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 11m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

First 5 miles was on target pace and still in AG lead. Around 5 miles the feet started to hurt to the point I began to walk. Walking hurt the feet as well. I just did the penguin waddle on in to the finish.
What would you do differently?:

I would not use brand new shoes that I have never run in. I would not use cotton socks.
Post race
Warm down:

Drink a Pepsi

What limited your ability to perform faster:

See "run" above

Event comments:

--Overall organized race. There was an issue with 2 other athletes with a GIRO 2 helmet with the CPSC sticker in it but an official telling them they could not use that helmet for ???? reason.

--Had a slot to WC70.3 in Austria but I did not go to the roll down. My mistake. =)

Dang man, great race.  The run hurt most people, even though yours sound more related to equipment as opposed to the conditions.

Some mistakes I made during the Hawaii Ironman 70.3. Don't be caught out on the course not knowing how or not having the equipment to change a flat tire.

It was the morning of Ironman Newfoundland 70.3, I felt queasy. I didn't want to eat or drink anything. I had a full blown case of the pre-race HEEBEE GEEBEES.
