Event warmup:

Didn't do a warm up run, but did get in for a short swim, which always helps.
Swim
  • 11m 13s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 14s / 100 meters
Comments:

10 years of racing and that is the most I've ever been beat up on a swim. I got punched a couple of times and one guy pushed my back so hard that I ended up a foot under water.

I haven't been swimming because of issues with the endless pool, so I was really concerned about redlining and that start did exactly that. I would have been in trouble if I had tried to press on, so I grabbed a kayak for a brief rest. I didn't expect to be remotely in contention for a podium, so I wasn't worried about ti. Turns out that it probably cost me the third spot.
Transition 1
  • 01m 43s
Bike
  • 35m 20s
  • 14 miles
  • 23.77 mile/hr
Comments:

Seriously fast bike split. No idea what the power was, though, because I didn't have the cadence magnet that would have turned the PM on.
Transition 2
  • 00m 59s
Run
  • 21m 53s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

Not a bad run considering that I haven't done any speed work since The Rookie.

Event comments:

Bit of a weather delay, but that's not the organizer's fault.

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.

The triathlon made a lot of sense as I could fit the training around early mornings and other times that wouldn't eat too much into my family time. Things never go completely to plan do they?

I found a sprint, the Lake Las Vegas Triathlon, that was happening four months down the road and signed myself up; much to the surprise of friends and family.

The first time I ventured into the deep murky green lake and could not see the bottom my muscles tensed and my imagined fears surfaced. What exactly lies beneath?

Both the Lake Triathlon Shoe CX210TRI and the Lake Road Shoe CX225 offer distinct advantages. I tested both shoes and found them to be extremely comfortable, good looking and durable.

If you are calm while everyone around you is losing it, you probably don’t know what the hell is going on.
