Did your physio offer any exercises to strengthen your hips and glutes as I have found a muscle imbalance in these causes most ITB symptoms.  I was able to clear mine up in about 2 weeks with side leg lifts, clam shell, bridge exercise.  Check out YouTube for some exercises.  Also foam roll you quads, ITB, and hamstrings as I found this really helps break up any knotted up tissue and loosen the area up.  This will help relive some of the pain but won't cure it.  If you can get a weekly massage as well that will also be helpful in keeping the problem from returning.   Hope this helps.

Strength train it but also get a lacrosse ball and roll deep into your glutes. Hold it where it hurts real bad for a good 20 seconds. All around your hip area.

If you have a desk job, bring it to work and use many times while sitting on the ball

A tennis ball can work too just not as effective

Using a high-volume schedule for many months is not the best tactic. Build speed and skill several months out, and then transition to a high-volume IM plan.

I just had a couple of problems, I could count the number of triathlons I had contested at zero. Secondly, I could count on one hand the number of times I had been swimming in the last 17 years.

This half Ironman plan covers many weeks of challenging, but attainable training for someone who has some endurance experience, and ideally some Olympic distance races within the past season.
