Pre-race routine:

I got up early and got to the course at about 6:20 for an 8am start. I wanted to make sure I wasn't rushed and I got a good spot in transition.
Event warmup:

A little walking around and a brief swim.
Swim
  • 16m 30s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

Much better swim performance than in past events. I started out towards the back of the pack which I think hurt me a bit. I think I am a lot faster than some of the people I let in front of me so I had to do a lot of passing in the first 200 yards or so. I went out very fast because of this, I just wanted to get out of the crowd.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 04m 23s
Comments:

Pretty good T1. The long time is due to the long distance between the swim finish and the transition area.
What would you do differently?:

The only thing I think I might do differently is not wear gloves. I have stopped wearing them most of the time on road rides but I am concerned about going glove-less on the MTB.
Bike

  • 11.19 mile/hr
Comments:

I had a pretty good ride. Sort of fast for most of the race. I got caught up in a pretty big crash about half way through the first loop. I was with a fast group at the time. The pile up happened at the base of a pretty good climb, I couldn't clip back into my pedals going up the hill so I had to run my bike up. I lost a lot of time here and I ended up behind a slower group than I was originally with.
Transition 2
  • 00m 33s
Comments:

Very fast T2 even though I was wearing my trail shoes that have regular laces so I had to take the time to tie them.
Run
  • 31m 12s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run. So much better than last year.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Walked back to transition area.

Event comments:

Great day!! I did this race last year and finished 25 minutes faster today than I did one year ago on the exact same course. I am very pleased with my performance today and I am so happy to see that my training and hard work has led to some race day improvements.

I had a totally different mind-set today than I did last year. A year ago, it was my first tri and I just wanted to get through it.

This year was so muuch different. I knew I could do it and I knew I had enough training to support a hard effort, so I went all out.
