Subject: Blood in urine after strenuous workout
I occasionally have blood in my urine after a strenuous run, bike, or brick. Never on a swim. My urologists says it can happen and there is no reason for alarm.

Has any one else ever experienced this issue?

Thanks!

How do you know its blood? It could be myoglobin, which can appear in urine from muscle breakdown and cause false positive urine test for blood. Myoglobinuria indicates significant muscle damage, and if its a large amount (especially if coupled by dehydration), it can cause kidney failure.

If you are one of those athletes, and the compartments don’t easily expand, the pressure within increases with exercise. This can stress the muscle as well as the nerves and blood vessels.
