road bike and shoes would be a must. Get up to speed and recover after swim quicker.

Nice course round lake but struggled with knee.
What would you do differently?:

Practice running grass and protect knee, not be too timid at beginning, stretch out more.

Absence of road bike, concern about running out of puff.

Started late, one drinks station, lake full of weeds with dangerous entry/exit plus run up stony path to T1. Many problems with timing chips.

At first I thought, "Oh boy, what a mistake!" Let’s face it, I could barely run half a mile, I had not swum in forever, and my biking skills were not great, to say the least.

As a novice swimmer I have listed a few things that may help you build your endurance as you approach the water with a sprint race in your future. It can be overwhelming if you are not a fish.

My sister warned me about being used as a launch ramp by faster swimmers but much to my surprise I was the one swimming over those in front of me. I went around one woman, then another.
