Firecracker 4 Miler - Run

View Member's Race Log View other race reports
Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina
United States

Sunny
Total Time = 38m 44s
Overall Rank = 74/147
Age Group = f45-49
Age Group Rank = 50/12
Pre-race routine:

Woike up and stopped at SBux on the way to the race. The 8:30 start time made it hard to know whether to eat something beforehand. I had a piece of banana nut bread and a flat white.
I wasn't really expecting to be competative and just wanted to enjoy racing with DS2 but didn't want to have GI issues either. I planned to treat it like a training run but the late start kinda threw me as a training run would be before breakfast.
Event warmup:

Not much.
Run
  • 38m 4s

Comments:

This race was awesome. It was fun to run "with" DS2 again and I loved the setting. Under the large oaks with Spanish Moss draping down. The humidity is brutal for this desert girl but the mostly shaded course was beautiful and navigating the tree roots was a blast.

About 2.5 miles in I had to slow my pace to avoid an embarrasing GI issue but because it was a training run I wasn't too worried about it. It would've been fun to take advantage of the low elevation and smoke this race but the humidity and GI issue sort of negated that.

Great race.

PS... DS2 did it in 29:36 He said his body was done at 3.1, the distance he always runs now. But he got 26/147 overall. I didn't count his age group (the results aren't sorted) but he was up against some fasties (his age group always is). He had fun too. he did beat the army guy :)
What would you do differently?:

The only thing I might change is forgo the banana bread. Otherwise, I wouldn't change a thing!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked to the prota john. Had a water, then a beer :)

Watched the kids race then headed out for a fun filled day with DS2

Pix...
The beautiful start on the plantation
I'm the one in red with Trex arms (DS2 gives me crap about that)
Look at the form on that kid! (giving him the right to give me crap about mine)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

HUMIDITY!!!! (and banana bread)
Indulging in southern food
Genetics

Event comments:

This is a small race but it was a lot of fun. This was their 3rd annual and I think it will continue to get better. I have no complaints about the organization of this race.

How incredibly awesome to be able to do a race with DS2 again, YAY!!!!!  T-rex arms, ha ha ha!  That does look like a gorgeous race setting, sorry 'bout the east coast humidity, it does really suck sometimes.  Great job!

Edited to add:  The title of the race has the cheerleading chant stuck in my head: Firecracker, firecracker, boom boom boom! LOL

Further edited to add: no, I was not a cheerleader but I had a friend who was, so I'm blaming her for this madness in my head

Great, now that cheer is in my head too

Interestingly, my HR was pretty low for all of my runs there.

Salty, it was very cross country-esque, sans any hills. I loved it, navigating the roots was a blast.

Janyne, we loved it. Plenty to do and the food was aMAZing.
