I was going to do the 70.3, but injury means I will probably be a spectator this year.

I got confirmation that the 2016 Redman wait list will open up on July 1st.  Since this is the location of the ITU World Long Course World Championship this year's Redman Triathlon will only be offered at the distances of the Long Course Championships of 4K swim, 75 mi bike, 18 mi run.  There will be separate wave starts for the Redman Triathlong from the ITU World Championship Athletes.

On another note... after a year and a half as a triathlete I final was able to do my first training work out with another triathletes.  I was invited for a 100 miles bike ride on Saturday.  My longest ride was the 68 miles I did with the Freewheels Oklahoma Bike Tour on Tuesday so I didn't know how I would hold up on the ride, but it wasn't any harder than the 25 mile rides that I have been doing on a mountain bike at 7 mph with the boy scouts the past 6 weeks (in prep for the OK bike Tour).  I had two other people on the ride with me but the one that was the strongest cyclist of us all got leg cramps at mile 60 and couldn't work through them so we SAG's in at mile 84.  It was still quite inspiring to me.  A year ago I was dying at mile 50 miles, on Saturday I took nothing but water for the fist 4 hours of our ride and felt strong the whole way.  Despite this year's Redman being longer that what I wanted for my next race I am really considering put in for the wait list.

I'm doing the 70.3. I am not going to participate in the local TriOKC events this year so I can stay on the training plan. I will volunteer for the TriOKC events though, as I can bank volunteer bucks towards their events in 2018.

I will be doing the 70.3 this year if I don't get in another car wreck like I did in 2015.

I probably would have done the "Citizen's Race" last year if they would have figured out the modified distances for that race more than 6 weeks before the race.  I guessed that they weren't sold out and trying to attract people like me how struggle with a 1.2 mi swim and had decided that it wasn't a good idea to do a the race with a 2.5  mile swim.  The 1.24 mi swim, 48 mi bike, 12.4 mi run would have been a sweet race but I made other training focuses last fall and wasn't going to be able to change things 6 weeks before a race and expect to be ready.  The price was also a little high at that point so I decided to wait another year for my Redman debut.

I nailed this race.  My goals going into the race were to survive the swim, go under 3 hours on the bike and under 2 hours on the run.  The swim was the best I have ever done.  There was high wind that blew some of the large inflatable turn buoys away.  They tried but couldn't get them to stay anchored so we just used the ones that stayed ancorged for the race making it a feww hundred meter short.  I didn't get cramps though and finished in the front of the pack.  The bike was fast.  Really fash.  Going out we were down hill with the wind to our back. Returning we were up hill into the wind.  Out bound I was doing 24.33 MPH average/  I go a flat tire at mile 31 coming back so I lost my group I was pacing off of.  It took 8 minutes to change the flat and I rode more conservative coming back so I was a 1:48 bike time but the group I was pacing with going out did a 2:30 bike time.  I did a 1:49 run time.
