Lakeside Triathlon
85F / 29C
Sunny
Total Time = 2h 24m 22s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 4/4
Pre-race routine:

Loaded up the family and made the short drive to the race site. Gatorade and Bacon, Egg, and Cheese sandwich for breakfast in the car on the drive. Set up transition and hung out.
Event warmup:

Light stretching.
Swim
  • 22m 39s
  • 1320 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

Water felt great, 71 degrees was perfect. The only bad thing was that the Thursday before the race my tinted googles developed a leak. Ended up using my clear googles for the swim which made breathing to the East rough.
What would you do differently?:

New googles and maybe sight a little better, seemed to drift to the left quite a bit.
Transition 1
  • 01m 57s
Comments:

I have sensitive feet and the run to transition and sucked, but it is what it is.
Bike
  • 59m 21s
  • 19 miles
  • 19.21 mile/hr
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Run
  • 58m 14s
  • 4.5 miles
  • 12m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

The humidity and lack of run training killed me... end of story. In my training for the Illinois Marathon I developed PF in my left foot. My run has been pretty much non-existant since April. I also made the mistake of wearing my zero-drop Newton Tri-Racers instead of something with more support.
What would you do differently?:

Wear different shoes.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank water and Gatorade. Some light stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lower training volume due to work, PF in my left foot and subsequent poor choice in shoes for the day.

Event comments:

Gene does a great job as the RD for this race. Lots of great volunteers and community support. Closed state highway for the bike is almost unheard of anymore.

Spice up your training! Improve your VO2 max and threshold. If you are using this plan during the winter, you can start your specific training in the spring with a nice improvement in your speed.

This plan is designed to make you go faster. 3 workouts per week in each sport, 2 days of strength training and core work. The maximum volume is around 10 hours toward the end of the 12 weeks.

This plan is an advanced plan in terms of volume and intensity and appropriate for someone who is looking to go under 5:00 and as fast as 4:30. There isn’t a lot of fluff in the plan.

Executing this full Ironman plan for 17 weeks would give people with one Ironman under their belts very good preparation for a 2nd and 3rd. Preferably, you should have a 6:30 or faster HIM time.
