Thinking about doing the Olympic this weekend. Anyone done it? I looked up last year's results (it was in June?) and this year's participant list and it looks like a small race. From a timing perspective it fits my schedule but it's an out and back double loop bike and run (anyone follow that?). It's also a 2 hour drive. So someone out there encourage me that it's a fun race. I guess one upside is that it's a pancake flat bike. But it'll probably be scorching hot.

Also, anyone else out there doing it? Or want to? louiskie, fgump, d00d (if you're back in the east yet)? Come on, you know you want to race!

Hey smoom. I did that race several years ago...its a good race! The bike was blazingly fast- I think I averaged 22.7 or something like that (and you know my normal pace isn't that) on the ride! Swim was fine- its water and wet and you cover X distance. Nothing really remarkable there. Bike, as I mentioned, was fast as heck. The run was a sufferfest when I did it- about a million percent humidity so people were struggling (me included). Unless they changed it, you start in a really pretty little park, have shaded streets for a bit and then head across the river into "town", turn around and come back, rinse and repeat. Nice cus you always see people on the run. Not nice because if you are struggling it is mentally hard to turn around and go back away from the finish. Still, really fun little race. You can read my race report if you want to stalk me. We are on vacation starting Friday so I wouldn't be able to join but before we planned the vacation I had actually thought about doing it. Its a bit of a drive down there- 90 mins or so?

Thanks Louiskie! The departure and drive times in your report were especially helpful. Sounds like a flat, fast course. I haven't even discussed the race with my wife yet but if she's cool with me I think I'll go for it.

I did the IOS100 there a few years back.  I "won" a free entry from FS Series (awesome they gave away an entry, but it was a LONG day), and it was a 2-mile swim, 88 mile bike, and 10 mile run.  2 1-mile loops in the river, 2 44-mile loops on the bike, and 2 5-mile run loops.  Beautiful setting, but did I mention it was a long day?  Wind on the 2nd loop on the bike picked up and made it a struggle.

As Louiskie mentioned, it is a pretty race setting.

Sorry, can't join you this weekend-have Boy Scout Troop duties.

I did it quite a few years ago. I mention it because I did the drive from Raleigh the morning of the race. I believe the course might be different back then (bike just straight out and back)
It was small back then, but was a pretty cool race. I would do the race again. My race report shows what time I left home etc.

Have fun if you head out there.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm registering right now. I'm kind of looking forward to a low key race to throw down. I've only raced twice this year but been training non-stop.
