Comments:

I felt weak right off the start. lots all the feet in front of me and fount it tough to get going.

Felt a little better after 200m and was happy still to be close to my wave. Passing slow swimmers from the group inf front gives a real boost in confidence.

Lake Ontario was calm despite the windy day.
What would you do differently?:

Get in the water more often. I have really let swim training slip.
Transition 1
  • 02m 28s
Comments:

Was much better with wetsuit off and running. But the sheer size of T1 added time.
What would you do differently?:

Like earlier in the year. get there super early to get a better spot.
Bike
  • 50m 41s
  • 25 kms
  • 29.60 km/hr
Comments:

Boring out and back route on the service road. I kept good cadence on the way out. Had a sore gut due to having drunk too much pre-race. A familiar feeling which went away as my belly emptied.
Strong wind on the way back made it tough to find a good gearing. My legs finally woke up after 20km!
Just shy of the 30kph average thanks to the wind.
Soo much drafting. One group of women with matching Tri club shirts (Barrie Baydogs?) in a pack. Drafting and blocking. Sheesh.
What would you do differently?:

Push earlier to take advantage of the tail wind. Suck it up and peddle harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Run
  • 41m 21s
  • 7 kms
  • 05m 55s  min/km
Comments:

This was the hottest Subaru event on record and I am very pleased with this slow run considering how may runners I saw walking or stopping at drinks stations or even in the back of ambulances.

Tried twice to up the pace but could not hold it. Legs felt good with no sign of the old cramping issues. Which on a hot day is great.

What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Drank my Erdinger near-beer in the mist tent to cool down.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of swim training.

Event comments:

A good race on a boiling hot and humid day. Subaru run a good show even if I am a bit tired of the endless commercialism. Will do this again when the Park Road hill is open.

Great job! It was a super hot day so way to go on keeping going and being smart in your race strategy!

A bonus that Lake Ontario was calm - such a toss up for that venue!

I also noticed all the drafting. I was passed by numerous people riding in groups, who obviously knew each other. So annoying.
