HOLY CRAP is all I can say about this race - you'll see why.................
Swim
  • 09m 59s
  • 450 yards
  • 02m 13s / 100 yards
Comments:

Typical Tuesday night weather - threat of thunderstorms!!

The swim starts in 3 waves - the under 1 hour people, the men, then the women.

As soon as wave 1 went off, there was thunder in the distance. the life guards pulled all the recreational swimmers out of the water. The race organizers stood there with their phones watching the radars and decided to hold the other 2 waves back for 10 minutes and then "it should clear."

Well it just got darker and darker and finally they decided to let us go - first the men, then the women with only 1 minute between us (usually 2 or 3). So the swim was a cluster!! Now I know what they mean when they say the swim is a "washing machine." The women caught the back of the men's wave pretty quickly. The swim went by so fast - all I was doing was watching waves and dodging bodies! Good practice for IMMT I suppose.

But I had my best swim yet! I guess that's what thunder and lightning does.
Transition 1

I'm getting the hang of this and it's been pretty consistent
Bike
  • 27m 35s

Comments:

The bike!! about 2/3 through it was so dark you could hardly see the trail in front of you....and then the rain came. TORRENTIAL. I mean we've ridden in the rain before but never like this!! On the downhills the water was rushing past me faster then I was pedaling! It was really cool and scary as hell!! I had my 2nd fastest bike time! I'm definitely I mudder!
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Then when we got back they didn't let us go out for the run. I'm not sure if they'll count our points or not because the timing is now a cluster. I sure hope they do! I beat DH!
Run

Comments:

No run (can't say I was really upset about it).

Bummer about the race not counting. But you will always know you beat DH

Good job getting your best swim split AND a great bike time in spite of rolling down the river.

Great job on another week!

Crazy day for a race!!

Sorry it didn't count for any points, but what a wild ride to get to the finish line!  (minus the run, which I wouldn't have minded either )

You're really not supposed to bike during the swim, Randee.   Holy cow, indeed.  Glad you were safe and good job beating DH!!

I own both a road bike and a tri bike. I am wondering which bike I should be riding during off season training, or does it matter?
